Shafaq is sharing her story with us:
“I was very young when I got married. I was only about sixteen or seventeen. Before meeting I Change Her Life (www.ichangeherlife.com) community development officers, I never went out of the house. A lot of changes took place after the workshops conducted by I Change Her Life. My friends and I made a group and started working together and talking about our personal problems. We started sharing our embroidery techniques and ideas and from this, we have started earning money. The training we received has taught us how much time we need to spend on different projects and what sewing techniques work best. We can finish work on time and earn $6 OR $8 per hour- this is good income and obviously a benefit!
I had no confidence in my abilities and myself but after getting connected to I Change Her Life, I felt I could challenge myself to achieve my goals. One of my biggest goals was to send my two daughters to school. The community officers really worked with us and gave us faith in our capabilities. We can create social change and also discuss the problems we face. We have a voice in the village.”
